2008 Antinori Orvieto Classico Secc o'Campogrande
Antinori have been making wine since 1385 & are one of the largest producers in Italy, so it’s no surprise they could come up with a white of this quality, for this amount of money. It shows what practice and money can do. This Bianco is a bit late for summer but is still worthy for your dinner table; clean, energetic, bright yet managing to finish dry.
Food Match: Any sashimi would do but a King Fish Carpaccio would work a treat.

2009 Linfield Wines ‘Dear Nellie’ Semillon
Semillon may be well and truly Hunter but that’s not to say the Barossa can’t turn out a gem now and again... Linfield wines aren’t as old as Antinori but as a family, they have been growing grapes for over 150 years – a milestone in our industry. Where this wine shines is that it has been picked early to retain its acidity and allow for some time in the cellar. Fresh lemons and excellent texture with no oak in sight make the Nellie an excellent example of Semillon from warmer regions.
Food Match: Steamed prawns with ginger & shallots (Chinatown style)

2005 Killibinbin ‘Scaredy Cat’ Cabernet Malbec
Named in honour of the harvester driver who came to pick the cabernet for this wine, promptly stopping his harvester midway down the first row proclaiming it, “too steep.” The steepness of the vineyard is the key to the wine however, allowing great aspect to the sun. The long, slow ripening period and low yields of 2 tonnes to the acre result in a ripe, powerful wine with classic, cool climate attributes. This wine once sold for $30 a bottle but some good fortune for SBC members we have secured it much cheaper!
Food Match: Crack it with the Sunday Roast… Lamb would work best and the weather is ideal for all.

2007 Côte du Lion Languedoc Rouge
Most of France struggles with ripeness in the red department and certainly consistency due to vintage vagaries but towards the Mediterranean fruit sees more sunshine. So when you see a wine with vibrancy and fruit weight for only 20 dollars a bottle that still maintains some old world charm you jump on it. This GSM is user friendly…
Food Match: Try to find a traditional French recipe of Beef Casserole.

2004 Yalumba FDR1A Cabernet Shiraz
A special back release from Yalumba. This wine has a sumptuous and powerfully structured palate of pristine small berry and dark plum fruit. It’s much riper, smoother and richer than the aroma suggests. It’s stylish and tight, finishing with a burst of gravelly Cabernet tannins
Food Match: A good cut of simple grilled steak with a nice Salsa Verde on the side.
$36
2009 The Furious Knives of Wine ‘Battle Island’ Shiraz Cabernet
Punters beware, the knives are out and they seem angry! What does this mean? I’ve got no idea, but this is bargain booze at its best. We’re always looking for personality in a wine and when you can match it with a great price tag everyone’s happy. Commanding, rich fruit strikes with a wave of black boysenberry and hints of charcuterie. Very fine tannins and approachability make the Furious Battle Island not so furious – on the contrary - quite likable.
Food Match: Perfect for the great Aussie BBQ, bangers and chops!
