Bargain Buys, Up Coming tastings and a wine called Grange

10 May 2010

Without further ado...

Bargain Buys!

Some cracking new bargain reds just in time for Winter.

2006 Killibinbin Cellar Release Shiraz @ $14

We have been fans of Killibinbin from the very beginning and are more than aware of the quality, so when we were offered an amazing deal on his 2006 'Cellar Release' Shiraz, we were quick to jump. Big, rich, sweet fruit is well balanced with some savoury tones. A layered and vibrant Shiraz worth a lot more than the $14 price tag!

2009 Furious Knives of Wine 'Battle Island' Shiraz Cabernet @ $15

Punters beware, the knives are out and they seem angry! What does this mean? I’ve got no idea, but this is bargain booze at its best. We’re always looking for personality in a wine and when you can match it with a great price point everyone’s happy. Commanding, rich fruit strikes with a wave of black boysenberry and hints of charcuterie. Very fine tannins and approachability make the Furious Battle Island not so furious – on the contrary - quite likable.

2006 TeAro 'Jokers Grin' Shiraz Cabernet @ $16

Cracking old school 'Claret style' here... Lush Shiraz is balanced with some dry, herbaceous (not green) Cabernet creating a lovely & robust wine. Well-rounded dark fruits finish strongly with some lingering, dusty tannin. All in all, an energetic and complete number at a great price point.
