Three very big names in the business this week...

2007 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon @ $90!

The 'hype' for this wine has been building for a while and the time has now come to decide whether it is worth the wait... we believe it is! There’s no denying the ’07 is ripe but the trick here is the balance and texture. It is juicy and layered with classy oak management. Have a look at their website and see Keith’s thoughts on the current release and its potential. “…using the 1976 vintage as our example, we strongly recommend that those who have the opportunity to cellar the wine should do so. It will take at least 10 years to develop some bottle age characters and will probably reach its peak somewhere around 20 years old. However, it should continue to be drinkable up to 30 years old, at least…” If you like Moss Wood this won’t disappoint.

For a very short time we have the wine at the very special price of $90 a bottle. This offer will only be on for two weeks. You can purchase it online or send us an e-mail to wine@eastendcellars.com.au.

2009 Bindi Release

Once again East End Cellars is very proud to offer Michael Dhillon's Bindi wines as a pre-arrival campaign. Michael Dhillon arguably produces some of Australia’s greatest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir - these wines are very sought after, and certain to draw much attention. As such, allocations are small and the wines are incredible.... Basically what we are saying is don't hesitate.

This year the campaign differs to previous as we are only offering the wines in a mixed dozen, here is what you will receive - with notes from Michael Dhillon.

3 x Composition Chardonnay

“The nose is bright in lemon, orange blossom, mineral, fresh pear and spice.  The palate is tangy, fresh, tight and intense.  There are mealy, lees elements giving fullness and texture while the bright acidity gives the wine drive and length.  This wine has a beautiful overall balance of brightness and textural depth. This wine will benefit from around four years cellaring to gain complexity and richness”

3 x Composition Pinot Noir

“The alluring nose is vibrant and layered and offers red and dark small berries, spice and earth.  The palate is intense and particularly pure. There is complex red berry fruit and a creamy mid palate that then becomes firmer. A long driven finish.  This really is a very seductive Pinot Noir.  Given three to four years it will become even more delicious and should drink beautifully for a decade.”

2 x Original Pinot Noir

“The 2009 Original Vineyard is ripe and fleshy with beautiful strawberry, red and dark cherry aromas. It is complex with spice and creamy dimensions.  The palate is silky and smooth with mineral and acid elements helping to drive the fruit on towards a delicious flourish on the finish.  This wine will age well for a decade.”

2 x Pyrette Heathcote Shiraz

“This is the most fragrant and pure, and perhaps the most complex, of the nine vintages we have made from this excellent vineyard.  The nose is bright in red fruits, creamy, earthy and has some darker fruit and exotic spice elements lurking.  The palate is youthful, vigourous and has delicious creamy elements with excellent weight, balance and length.  It will improve further with four to five years cellaring although the balance is such that it is approachable now.”

1 x Quartz Chardonnay

“The 2009 Quartz is fresh and mineral, displaying zesty lemon, jasmine and spice characters on the nose.  There are also fleshy nectarine and white peach aromas.  The palate is rich and intense and builds tightness.  It ideally needs two years to gain further complexity and seductive elements.”

1 x Block 5 Pinot Noir

“The 2009 Block 5 is a dark and profound wine with earth, spice and black cherry aromas.  The palate is powerful, tight and driven. It has wonderful balance and will live for many years.  Five years will see a wonderful improvement and it will live for half a dozen years more.”

On the shelf this mixed dozen would be $814, but as a pre-arrival offer it can be yours for only $690. The wines arrive in mid-October but to secure the mixed dozen we do require payment upfront.

There are a limited number of mixed dozens, for all enquiries please send us an e-mail to wine@eastendcellars.com.au or give us a call 08 8232 5300.

New Release William Downie's

If you are a fan of the Pinot's from Bill, purchase now because they are rare as hen’s teeth... Due to numerous reasons Bill only made two wines for the vintage and only one Pinot in 2009, suffice to say the numbers are down greatly. The other gem produced this year is a new project for William Downie Wines, being a quirky and gorgeous Petit Manseng. 3 bottle limit per customer for both wines.

2009 William Downie Mornington Pinot Noir @ $75

"The nose shows lifted, ripe Pinot fruit – cranberry, raspberry and blackberry with underlying rosehip and violet. The palate is textured and round with red fruits as well as quince, cardamom, mace and clove. It is structured and defined but an approachable young wine by our standards."
- William Downie

2009 William Downie Petit Manseng @ $46

"Aromas of pear, apple, lime and caramelised pineapple. The palate shows honeydew melon, kiwi and toasted marshmallow with subtle notes of curry leaf and lemon verbena. The wine is rich and powerful yet structured and refreshing. Not obviously sweet, the acidity and tannin provide definition and balance. A wine to follow over many years. Works well with Asian food or lighter fruit based desserts for now."
- William Downie

You can purchase the wines online or send us an e-mail to wine@eastendcellars.com.au.
