2009 Ducks in a Row 'Erect Habit' Mataro
Max Allen, Weekend Australian Magazine:
“these are wines of intelligence, beauty, passion and integrity”
Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine:
Ducks in a Row listed as one of top ten “hot” labels in the country
It hasn't taken long for the team at Ducks in a Row to garner some hype... Mention the name Glenn James and the interest levels start to rise instantly. Glenn is red group winemaker for one of the biggest players in the industry, so when he decided to venture out and be seen, he knew people would be watching intently. A fan of Mataro and rightly so, when you see just what he’s crafted from a 60 year old vineyard in McLaren Vale.
This is a righteous and commanding Mataro with sublime balance. Mulberry bush waves past your nose, while the palate, with its mouthwatering acidity and long, fine tannins is met by blueberries and subtle spice. The whole package is seamless – from label to liquid – the Erect Habit will excite.
There are definite leaders in Oz for this varietal but we reckon this could be the new benchmark.

Yangarra High Sands Grenache & Ironheart Shiraz
We have been big fans of the Yangarra’s work over the past few years, with their Rhone specialist wines and most importantly, their Grenache. The 'High Sands' Grenache has become a leading wine for the variety in Australia and continues go from strength to strength (the vineyard is extraordinary and a must see). This year we also see a new flagship wine in their lineup with the 2007 Ironheart Shiraz.
2007 Yangarra High Sands Grenache @$75
For the past three years this wine has impressed and the 2007 is no exception. Incredibly expressive plump fruit is the star of the show, supported by rich cocoa and savoury tones with fine tannins to boot. Where this Yangarra shines is within its ability to display tremendous fruit weight but managing to pull back so as not to be seen as flabby. This is a must try wine; not just for Grenache fans but for all wine lovers.
2007 Yangarra Ironheart Shiraz @$70
This new release immediately shows where Pete and the crew are up to... Like the High Sands, it's power and grace in a bottle. If you know anything about Yangarra, and know how well they're performing now, you'll love this Shiraz.
"Ironheart is the flagship Shiraz from our single vineyard estate at the northern edge of McLaren Vale. The vineyard's cooler climate and sandy ironstone soils produce Shiraz with immense concentration and finesse." - Sourced from Yangarra
