New releases - Jamsheed, Teusner & Luke Lambert. Plus more tastings...

4 August 2010

This weeks e-mail features three labels that have been around the traps for at least a couple of years and moved on from that stage of "Young Guns to Watch" to "Must have Wines".

Teusner

Kym Teusner and Michael Page have been pumping out great booze since their first release back in 2002, and as the old cliché goes they seem to get better every year. They have also expanded their range recently with the inclusion of new wines like the very popular 'Dog Strangler' Mataro and 'The Independent' Shiraz Mataro, whilst staying strong on their old faithfuls like the 'Joshua' and 'Riebke'.

2009 Teusner 'Joshua' Grenache Shiraz Mataro @ $24

"...a wine that displays copious amounts of fresh red berry fruits and dusty tobacco leaf, without the intrusion of oak influence. A splash of mataro adds to the earthy complexity, whilst a little shiraz is used for structure and weight."

2009 Teusner 'Dog Strangler' Mataro @ $22

"The palate is well weighted and rich with broody dark and black berry fruits. Earthy and intense, with plenty of exotic spice, a touch of floral lift and savoury, ripe Mataro tannins on the lingering finish."

2009 Teusner 'Riebke' Shiraz @ $19

"The palate is densely packed and bursting with black and dark fruits, kirsch and plum with a touch of asian spice, liquorice, jasmine and a healthy dose of Barossa earth. The concentrated, opulent fruit finishes long, dry and savoury with chalky ripe tannins."

This Friday the 6th of August we will unite with the Teusner team as they pour their current range, so please join us in the shop from 5-7pm.

Jamsheed

Gary Mills has exploded onto the scene in a very short time with his Jamsheed wines, creating Syrah of great regional character. Then take in to account, each wine is from totally different vineyards and you end up with wines of total independent personality. Jamsheed are all about grace, elegance and 'new-school style'.
Producution for these wines is very small and they are already in high demand, so if they are of interest, please do not delay.

2009 Jamsheed 'Westgate' Syrah @ $40

"Handpicked from vines planted in 1969 from the Westgate Vineyard. 'Old Best' clone on Concongella soil profile..."

2009 Jamsheed 'Garden Gully' Syrah @ $40

"Handpicked from vines planted in the 1950's in the Great Western region of Central Victoria. 'Old Best's' clone, Concongella' soil profile..."

2009 Jamsheed 'Silvan' Syrah @ $40

"Sourced from a vineyard planted in the mid 90's on the deep red 'Monbulk' soils in the southern vales of the Yarra. South facing, north/south row orientation, low cropping (4.5t/ha) PT23..."

Luke Lambert

Whilst we love our SA wines, it seems our Victorian counterparts are becoming EEC favourites. The first time we tried Jamsheed and this little producer we were hooked. Luke Lambert's wines are all about silk and refinement, aiming for high tones rather than sheer force.

2009 Luke Lambert Nebbiolo @ $41

"A very tightly knit wine requiring extended decanter time. The Heathcote vineyard’s trademark characters of fennel and sour cherry are balanced by prominent acidity and fine tannin..."

2009 Luke Lambert Syrah @ $41

"The 2009 Yarra Valley Syrah is sourced from an elevated vineyard in St. Andrews where the rocky, depleted soil and steep, windswept slopes produce a more feminine, elegant style of Syrah..."
