2006 Bindi Pre-Arrival Offer (Sorry Offer Now Closed)
5 June 2007
It’s Bindi time…
For the last couple of years we have been very proud to offer these wines as a pre-arrival campaign and it seems to work. They are very sought after, they are very good and they are worth your attention.
For those who have yet to hear of Michael Dhillon, he producers some of Australia’s greatest chardonnay’s and pinot noir’s under the Bindi label. And if you hadn’t heard through the grape-vine (forgive the pun), Michael was nominated by Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine for their winemaker of the year title and in a very short time managed to get Bindi on to Langtons classifications.
This year has been separated into two allocations but we are taking orders for all the wines now and we require payment in full for all orders, once confirmed.
Below are the wines available with tasting notes from Michael Dhillon.
“The 2006 season was the warmest, driest and earliest season we had experienced to that date. During the fermentation and shortly after the pinot noirs went in to barrel there was scepticism about just how pure and fragrant the wines would be and would they be marked by the heat of the vintage. In accessing the outstanding fruit weight a query in relation to vitality as well as varietal and vineyard definition was raised. Most comfortingly, but not surprisingly, the wines evolved extremely well and took on tightness, intensity and restraint as they matured in barrel. The Chardonnays are savoury and fresh, restrained in white stone fruits with jasmine like perfume and have wonderful balance.”

Bindi 2000 Chardonnay (Blanc de Blanc) - $43 a bottle or $40 a bottle per dozen
Is fresh and vibrant with deliciously fragrant lemon, spice and butter aromas. The palate is initially full and supple then intensifies for lovely fine, intense, elegant finish.
Bindi Cuvee V - $43 a bottle or $40 a bottle per dozen
Is our current release blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It has been maturing on lees for over five years. It is a blend of 70% chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir from the 1993-2000 vintages that has gained excellent depth with this extended aging and has received a very small dosage at disgorging. It is a yeasty, spicy, exotic and earthy wine showing richness, tightness and minerality on the palate.
2006 Bindi Composition Chardonnay - $43 a bottle or $40 a bottle per dozen
Is comprised of fruit grown on light alluvial/quartz soils and eroded volcanic top soil over clay from our 1988 planting. The wine is 100% barrel fermented in new and older French barriques with aging on the fermentation lees with frequent battonage. Only a small amount of malo lactic took place. The wine is fragrant, chalky, and spicy and shows subtle blossom and white peach characters. The palate is fresh, intense, juicy, and gently mealy with lovely texture. It is very harmonious and finishes with delicious mouth feel. It will improve in complexity and integration for several years and should be enjoyed to around 2012.
2006 Bindi Composition Pinot Noir - $48 a bottle or $45 a bottle per dozen
This is the third release under this label and as with the previous wines it is predominantly comprised of fruit grown on our elevated, quartz laden new Block K vineyard with small amounts of fruit from older plantings on lighter alluvial soils and eroded volcanic soils over clay. The depth of flavour of this wine is extremely pleasing. The nose is very pure in red fruits, is fresh and has underlying spicy complexity. The palate is vibrant, creamy, beautifully balanced and velvet like with fine tannin carrying the pure fruit. It should drink wonderfully over ten years.
