8 January 2008

OFFER NOW CLOSED, thank you.
Yes it's that time of year when we bring you special pre-arrival offers - with the first instalment to come out being Burgundy... and it seems like only yesterday we were all talking about the '05's! Whilst the 2006 Vintage is very different to the prior year it is still definitely worth a good look; strong performances coming from the white wines, with some very solid reds backing. It looks like '06 should be a great drinking vintage!
2006 Vintage Report
Prepared by:Philip Tuck MW and Mark O’Bryen MW for Maison Louis Jadot.
Overview
"2005 was always going to be a difficult act to follow: comparisons both inevitable and invidious. The increasingly mercurial weather patterns that appear to be afflicting most of the world’s great wine regions at the moment, have in 2006, served to produce a totally different style to that of 2005 but an utterly charming and convincing one nevertheless.
In 2006 the fruit set was perfect, but then both red and white grapes suffered through a summer of extreme climatic conditions. July was incredibly hot, and thankfully, a cool, rainy August allowed for a slow, healthy ripening period. The ripening phase accelerated during the second and third weeks of September as sunshine and heat lowered acidity but increased concentration in the grapes.
2006 is a Burgundian lover’s vintage and a vintage to drink and enjoy whilst waiting for the more profound 2005 wines to reach their peak. Whites, from the Côte de Beaune down through the Mâconnais, are sumptuous. They have the finesse of the 2004s, combined with the tension of the 2002s, whilst evoking the style of the 2000s. The wines display wonderfully expressive aromatics and a textural quality which marries freshness with delicacy.
The reds are seductive, with charm and personality. They have a core of ripe fruit and a rounded structure supported by silky, delicate tannins. The wines from the Cotes de Nuits show more concentration and structure."
At this stage, due to the extremely low allocations and extremely high demand for this particular producer, all we ask for are expressions of interest. Simply let us know which wines you are interested in, we will tell the distributor what you want, they will tell us what we can have, and then we will pass this information onto you. As convoluted a process as it sounds, it guarantees the best prices, and the wines you want... speaking of;

Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes @ $130
Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières, Domaine Louis Jadot @ $144

Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrieres @ $157
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Referts, Domaine Louis Jadot @ $115
Like all the Pulignys this year, there is real depth and richness here, with an underlying acidic core to bring harmony and elegance. An impressive result.

Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne, Domaine du Duc de Magenta, Monopole @ $137
A wine for lovers of white Burgundy in the classic mould. Elegant, but ripe with impressive depth. A wine for the medium-term.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières, Domaine Louis Jadot @ $137
This wine is close to Grand Cru quality this year such is the power and depth of really complex fruit flavours. There is a sturdy structure to ensure longevity as well. Should age beautifully.

Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets @ $228

Once again showing great complexity and sophistication on the nose and palate with real depth and elegance. Slow to emerge but multi-dimensional. Great wine.
Le Montrachet Grand Cru @ $680
Very different in style to the Demoiselles. This is slightly closed and backward but with considerable underlying power with the framework to last for many years. 100% from the Chassagne side.

REDS
Côte de Nuits Villages ‘Le Vaucrain’, Domaine Louis Jadot @ $46
Considering the challenges here in 2006, this is another very good result showing lovely purity in a slightly lighter style. Dry, with a typical light earthy flavour and fine grained tannins.
Beaune 1er Cru Avaux, Domaine Louis Jadot @ $64
Not a wine we have followed recently, but it is delicious this year and very close in quality to Clos des Ursules. Really fine, complex and elegant. A great result.
Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Boucherottes Domaine des Heritiers Louis Jadot @ $64
Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules, Domaine des Heritiers Louis Jadot, Monopole @ $93
Pretty, but, with impressive concentration for the vintage. The pure fruit core is well supported by a rigid tannic structure that will ensure good ageing potential.
Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Barre, Monopole $89
Beautifully pure, clean, floral expression here. Very scented and elegant, with a soft silky mouthfeel. Surprisingly firm for the vintage. This is quintessential Volnay.
Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens, Domaine Louis Jadot @ $115
Earthy, dry and firm – typical of this fine vineyard. A sturdy wine built to age but with only moderate acidity. It will be approachable quite soon. The best of the Pommard 1er Crus.
Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots @ $139
There is a restrained feel to this wine. It is concentrated and elegant with beautiful pure red-fruit. Delightfully soft for the appellation. Very much in the Vosne style unsurprisingly.
Vosne Romanée @ $82
Jacques Lardière has assembled a beautifully elegant cuvée here from perhaps the most successful village in the region in 2006. An impressive wine at village level.
Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots @ $157
Vosne was particularly successful this year and this is a good example. There is ripeness and balance with judicious amounts of oak and fine tannic veneer.
Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts @ $157
There is a special complexity to the aromas here – very compelling and elegant with a beautifully silky texture. One of the most elegant of all Burgundies. Fine.
Chambolle Musigny @ $82
Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Fuées, Domaine Louis Jadot @ $127
This superb site never fails to excite, and this wine is no different. Perhaps a little firmer in style than the Vosnes but with similar depth and complexity.
Chambolle Musigny 1er cru Les Amoureuses Domaine Louis Jadot @ $321
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers Domaine Louis Jadot @ $120
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques, Domaine Louis Jadot @ $198
From perhaps the most profound of the Gevrey 1er Crus, this wine has an extra depth and elegance that enhances drinkability. Very compelling.
Corton Pougets Grand Cru, Domaine des Heritiers Louis Jadot @ $119
Fleshy in style yet bold in stature. As usual, this will take time to reveal its true potential. Great purity suggests real potential.
Echézeaux Grand Cru, Domaine Louis Jadot @ $254
Aromatic and vibrant as you might expect, with considerable finesse and style. Concentrated though not overblown. Very subtle, delicate and fine on the finish.
Musigny Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot @ $792
Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot @ $311
Charmes Charmbertin Grand Cru @ $202
Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Louis Jadot @ $268
Perhaps a little more delicate than Charmes but no less fine for that. Real old vine depth here, and beautifully fresh tannins. Very convincing already.
Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru, Domaine Louis Jadot @ $423
Late malolactic here and still quite closed and backward on the nose but considerable depth of silky exotic fruit on the palate. This has a dense structure and a long, scented finish. Full-bodied and fleshy. Seriously impressive.
