Port Phillip Estate wines... Plus more wine courses with David LeMire MW!
4 March 2008
"The ability of the site (enhanced,it is true, by the skills of Sandro Mosele) to produce outstanding Syrah, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and very good Sauvignon Blanc, is something special. Whence climate change? Quite possibly the estate may have answers for decades to come."
5 star Winery, James Halliday.
Port Phillip Estate is situated at Red Hill in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula wine region 80km south of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The vineyard is part of the Gjergja family domain, which includes the Kooyong vineyard and winery.
With Sandro Mosele at the winemaking helm at Port Phillip Estate we have always shown interest in this label, but a recent tasting through the range of wines has prompted us to really take notice of this producer, so much so we purchased across the whole range, something that rarely happens at East End Cellars.
A stunning mix of old world meets new world with the main focus on Pinot, Shiraz and Chardonnay, add some great press, and you have yourself a very classy outfit.
The wines will be on tasting this Friday the 7th of March.
Also after sold out sessions last year we are happy to bring more wine courses with David LeMire MW. This year the sessions will be held upstairs at Chianti Classico and we have two great nights to start off...
March 18th: Emerging Whites ($75) 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm
There is life, hope, and lots of excitement around a whole bunch of emerging varieties in Australia. This session looks at who’s doing what where, and who’s doing it well. With Pinot Grigio and Viognier now in the mainstream, it’s time to look at varieties like Arneis, Albarino, Garganega, Fiano, and Vermentino – mostly looking at Australian wines, with a few old-world examples.
March 25th: Emerging Reds ($75) 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm
A look at emerging red varieties stirring up the wine scene. Australian wines from Tempranillo, Lagrein, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Petit Verdot, Lagrein, Montepulciano, and Aglianico all are getting more and more interesting every year. Find out who’s leading the charge, and which varieties have the most exciting potential in Australia.
