Kaesler and their new venture Nashwauk
11 March 2008
In this week's EEC electronic we look at the new releases from a long time favourite, Kaesler and their new McLaren Vale venture, Nashwauk wines.
Kaesler Wines started from a worldwide search for a property to produce the best possible grapes for red wine. Winemaker Reid Bosward and his co-owners, a group of international wine lovers, searched across the globe to areas such as America’s Napa Valley, the south of France, Marlborough in New Zealand and other parts of Australia before deciding to buy into the Barossa. Reid believes "No other area can produce the intensity of flavour that we have in the Barossa".
They pride themselves on being a small boutique producer and have no plans to turn the production into anything large scale.
“The thread that holds Kaesler together is the production of excellent wine” Reid Bosward.

Nashwauk is the new project for Reid and his team, and being Kaesler’s first wine made outside its Barossa Valley home they still wanted to maintain their criteria of using estate grown fruit of predominantly old vine plantings. This search to find the right vineyard took some time before a 20ha property on Neill Road in the Seaview sub region of McLaren Vale was bought in 2005. The 2006 vintage release is Nashwauk’s market debut and they are off to a great start receiving some great press and accolades.
Nashwauk, like Kaesler, will follow the small boutique production line, only being made in very small quantities (the volumes are outlined on wine labels) and the brand will probably peak at about 5000 dozen a year.
