New releases from Izway, Groom and Whip Hand!
15 July 2008
This week we feature three winemakers that we have been following closely over the past few years, Craig Isbel of Izway Wines, Daryl Groom from Groom Wines and Justin Lane's work from Redheads Studio. All three have worked for some of the "Big Names" over the years, (one still does) but their own labels are most deserving of individual attention. Another point of interest is that all the wines mentioned are from the '06 vintage, a year to get really excited about...
Barossa Boy Craig could not be happier with the way the 2006 vintage went for him, producing his best Shiraz yet. Making the wines with true expression to the style that only the Barossa Valley can get out of Shiraz, the Izway team, (Craig and Brian Conway) continue to impress. Whilst the 2006 Izway Bruce Shiraz continues down its monstrous, juicy-laden path, this years wine has much more lift - almost jumping out the glass with some beautiful floral notes. If you can push the luscious fruit aside for one second, just wait until you see the texture; viscous yet so light and inviting. With only 355 cases made this wine will not be around long...

Year after year the Groom Shiraz continues to shine, with 2006 possibly the best so far creating an extremely classy and beautifully structured wine. True to its variety, the Groom is deep, black and brooding in colour. The nose shows bright fresh aromas of spice, licorice and black currants, while new oak component is kept to a minimum to allow the vibrant fruit characters of the vintage to elevate. Some could say this is a 'mini-Grange'; looking at Daryl's C.V. and the old-vine Kalimna fruit from which this is born, not forgetting this has the potential to age for 15-20 years.

The new release of the 2006 Whip Hand Cabernet Sauvignon is now upon us and delivers a great follow up to one of our top selling wines from last year. Once again Justin Lane has created a great full-bodied red with fantastic layers of fruit, pushing the boundaries of McLaren cabernet... There's some very smart oak usage here and plenty of personality to be found - full throttle in every sense.
Don't forget about our Friday night tastings this week from 5pm till 7pm come in and try the wines from Izway, Groom and the Whip Hand.

From some gnarly old Barossa vines the Izway team have formed a rich & opulent wine with layers of dark berries. The Bruce, which has been the stable wine in the Izway portfolio is an absoulte cracker.
