New Battle of Boworth wines, and a masterclass in Nebbiolo with David LeMire MW.

Battle of Bosworth New Releases
Over ten years ago Joch Bosworth took over the family business and converted the ‘Edgehill' vineyard to organic viticulture, needless to say the wines have gone from strength to strength, year after year. But it is not just Organic viticulture that makes these wines so special... The chardonnay/viognier, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz vines are all trained to a two wire vertically shoot positioned spur pruned trellis. But the real treat comes from the ‘cordon cut' rows from which they get the 'vine-dried' cabernet and shiraz blending components (and from the shiraz , the ‘White Boar' material), they are trained to a single wire cordon with spur and cane vertically shoot positioned. This method creates a wine of great fruit intensity and depth but still very well balanced and fresh - which brings us to the 2006 'White Boar' Shiraz. Inspired by the ‘Amarone’ wines from Valpolicella the 'White Boar' is born, but rather than rack drying the grapes (ala-Amarone) all fruit follows the 'cordon cut' vine dried method. A wine of great richness, density, and beautifully structured, with cocoa like tannins; this wine is like chocolate without the fat. We like it so much, we here by declare it as the: August "Wine of the Month".
View all the wines.
Come meet Joch Bosworth this Friday the 1st August from 5pm till 7pm and try the wines.
Another David Lemire MW Masterclass.
The Nebbiolo session will again be held upstairs at Chianti Classico, if you are interested please do not delay as they sell out quickly.
Nebbiolo masterclass - Tuesday August 12th @ $145
The great Nebbiolo – producing wines that are complex, alluring, and that defy stereotyping. This tasting covers the famous denominazione, Barolo and Barbaresco, as well as a couple of other notable Piemontese examples, and one or two of our most promising locals. There will be a focus on the 2004 vintage from Piedmont, which is shaping up as a super vintage, following challenging conditions in 2002 and 2003. As always some brilliant wines will be on show, and the evening will be a chance to deepen your understanding of Nebbiolo.

It is not just organic viticulture that makes the wines from Battle of Bosworth so special... the real treat comes from the ‘cordon cut’ rows from which they get the ‘vine-dried’ Cabernet and Shiraz blending components. This is where some of the power comes from, as well as an infusion of gentle earthiness, round blackberries and entertaining spice. Sourced from Battle of Bosworth website

Though inspired by the ‘Amarone’ wines from Valpolicella, ‘White Boar’ is a different beast altogether. Rather than harvesting the grapes and drying them on racks, the canes are cut once the desired flavour spectrum has developed, which allows the fruit to dry and then raisin on the vine. After approximately two weeks of this process, the grapes are hand picked before being gently guided through a slow fermentation. These vine concentrated wines are made as a blending component for the single vineyard Battle of Bosworth red wines.
